A dark shadow fell over the mono motorcycles workshop at the beginning of this week. The menacing aura of a Ducati Diavel graced us with her presence & reminded us just how much attention Ducati’s demand. Splashes of colour cut through the Ducati’s darkness with the Canary Yellow of  the Suzuki RF600R & the Regal Red of the Norton Commando.

The Ducati Diavel was brought to us by one of our regular customers & friend to mono motorcycles. Having recently moved on his GSXR1400 & readying to part ways with his quad; the Ducati Diavel is most definitely an investment motorcycle for him.

For the purposes of reassurance for the customer & to ensure the longevity of his investment, the pre-loved Ducati Diavel was booked in to mono motorcycles for a full cambelt & valve clearance service. Furthermore, some additional components such as the ‘push to talk’ button were wired in & a new screen.

The major service on the Ducati Diavel covered the following:

• valve clearance check
• throttle bodies/carb balance
• TPS set up
• oil & filter replacement
• air filter replacement
• fuel filter replacement
• check coolant levels
• replace all fluids
• clean/check/adjust/re-grease chain
• check lights
• check tyre pressures/tread
• adjust & lubricate cables
• check brake components/levels
• check condition of brake pads (If upon inspection the pads needs replacing, we will advise prior to purchase & replacement. This will incur an additional parts charge if these need to be purchased.)
• strip & clean brake calipers
• replace brake fluid
• replace brake fluid lubricate all moving parts
• nut & bolt/headstock/wheels/ bearings, etc check
• headstock bearing strip, clean & re-grease
• replace plugs
• battery voltage check
• shock linkage re-grease

As part of our major services & where it is possible, we are using K&N air filters. Although the outlay is more than a standard part, the longevity of the K&N filters speaks for itself.

This means that aside from an interim service to ensure oil & filter is changed regularly, brake fluid is assessed & other fluids are checked; the Ducati Diavel will now be road safe & road certain for many thousands of miles to come.

We welcomed the first of our Triumphs this week, in the form of a Street Triple.

The Triumph Street Triple joined us for a full machine detail & winter protection.

The process to ensure the machine polishing is undertaken with expertise & precision & that the entire frame was treated with ACF50, took about 3 hours.

The wheels were Nano Sealed as this acts as a barrier to fluids & dirt. mono motorcycles avoid ACF50 on wheels as it has a tendency to attract dirt, rather than repel it.

Suffice to say, our customer was extremely happy & left us the following glowing review, for which we are both extremely grateful:

The Suzuki RF600R joined us after she had recently failed her MOT. We are more than happy to assist customers to ensure their motorcycles are safe & road worthy.  The RF600R was in need of new brake pads, new tyre & undertook an interim service.

One thing we noted when undertaking the service was the colour of the brake fluid.  It was virtually black. We have spoken before about the need for technicians to check brake fluid on every single service, which is something we always ensure we do at mono motorcycles.

Once the pads were fitted, new tyre & the service were undertaken, Daniel Morris took the RF600R back for a re-test, which she sailed through.

The second Triumph to the workshop this week was a Triumph Sprint.

The Triumph Sprint had had a faulty alarm, which had drained the battery. With the faulty alarm removed & a new battery fitted, chain lubricated & a health check undertaken; the Triumph Sprint was ready to get back on the road.

The Norton Commando which we welcomed to the workshop a few weeks ago, has let us in to a few of her secrets this week. One such secret was that the woodruff key seemed to be the wrong shape for the Norton, therefore meaning another had to be sourced.

One of the purchases we made at Motorcycle Live last weekend was another great innovation by Biker Tidy. We now have a  motorcycle helmet rest & jacket space in our welcome area, meaning our ‘waiting’ customers gain a more comfortable experience with us.

Nathan Morris is now working with us every Friday & learning more & more from Dad. Nathan has been learning to solder & has helped update our planning section of the workshop.

Nathan really is quite an intuitive mechanic, offering solutions for issues & taking the time to hone essential skills.
