We welcomed the Yamaha TW125 to the workshop on Monday for a major service. The TW125 has seen some adventures in her time, including previously running completely out of oil.  With an entire service, headlight re-wiring & full safety check undertaken; she is now ready for the winter riding season.

It was noted during the service that the front tyre of the TW125 had only 5psi in it. It should have been 22psi. As the tyre on the TW125 was quite wide, it is understandable that it may not have been noted in riding. However, checking tyre pressures regularly is an important safety measure, helps the performance of the motorcycle, reduces fuel consumption & prolongs the life of the tyres themselves.

One of our regular customers brought his Kawasaki ZX6 to us to replace the tyres, which gave Daniel Morris the opportunity to use our abba skylift. The abba range is an amazingly versatile workshop tool, enabling maximum manoeuvrability around a motorcycle.

Another regular customer brought his Yamaha R1 to us on Tuesday. The R1 has had a missfire issue since our customer acquired the motorcycle. Having had the R1 into the workshop recently for unrelated works, Daniel Morris advised the R1’s owner that he felt a coil had failed & hence the miss-fire issue.

The R1 owner purchased a coil & once the motorcycle was in the workshop, Daniel Morris set about identifying which coil had failed. As there are four coils in the R1, it was going to be a task to identify the culprit. The first coil tested, failed & replaced, has now made the Yamaha R1 run like it has never done before.

One of our very first customers returned to the mono motorcycles workshop this week with his Yamaha FJR1300, as it was ascertained during his previous works to fit a new wheel & tyre, that the  headstock bearings were in need of replacement. Daniel Morris noted once he started to undertake the procedure that the bearings were extremely lose, which can be dangerous if not addressed.

Some of the signs for headstock bearings failing are heavy steering or very light steering & lack of control of the front end of the motorcycle.

The Triumph Street Triple required a full valve clearance service & chain assessment. The abba skylift was put through it’s paces once again, as Daniel Morris needed to grease the shock linkages & then remove & grease the headstock bearings, which is all part of the major service.

In this case when undertaking the valve clearance check, all of the clearances were within the manufacturers tolerances & therefore did not require adjustment.

Daniel’s son Nathan has been working with us more & more recently, which is a great addition to the workshop. Nathan is very competent mechanic, having learned so very much from his Dad.
